For our February date we had a little [relaxing] getaway; it was a weekend at the Elm Spa. It was nice, but didn’t go quite how I had planned. The spa part of it was nice and relaxing. The rest of it, not so much….
To begin, I booked us a couple’s massage. I was a little nervous on how this would pan out. When I was ‘researching’ for dates last year I asked D (after I had been to the Elm Spa with his family) if that was something he’d be interested in doing. His response---I don’t want people touching me! Fast forward to January, I hit a new stage of stress (I didn’t feel stressed, but my body was) and thought a massage would be the cure. So enter our February date. To make it even more special, I added a hotel stay. The hotel is really neat and romantic and I thought a little getaway would be nice for the two of us.
We checked in at 4 and hung out in the grotto (it has a hot
tub and various saunas and showers). I
knew he would be all over the grotto and I wanted to spend some time there for
him to get used to the spa atmosphere. At
5:30 we had our massage. I laughed at
him the entire time while we got settled.
He was out of his element and freaking out because the bed was hot (the
person before had turned on the heater).
But once the heater on the bed got turned off and the massage got going,
he really enjoyed it; even said he would have another massage again
sometime. After our massage, we went
back to the grotto and then about 7, decided we were done for the evening.
Neither one of us were very hungry, but we thought we’d
check out their various restaurants for a few munchies. We picked their lounge bar first. D ordered a drink, but we couldn’t find a
food menu and no one offered us one while we waited even though every table
around us had food. After his drink, we
decided to check out their main restaurant.
At this point it was 8pm and the hostess told us there was an hour wait,
even though there were open tables and booths.
D was mad the hostess didn’t even offer us a seat at the bar (there were
some open). We decided we didn’t want
to wait that long so we headed back to our room to order room service. We check
the shortened menu and saw that they don’t offer room service until 10pm. At his point, D said I’ll just go to bed
hungry. I told him no, we needed to eat
something so we start to see what they have around town. The town didn’t have much to offer and D
picked Applebees, his absolute least favorite place to go (just to give you an
idea of our options). We get in the car
and head that way and then I spot a restaurant that’s 10 more miles away that
he’d been wanting to go to. I suggested
it and he said let’s go! We ended up eating a little after 9 anyway, but at
least the food was great! And to top it
off, we got 2 free cinnamon rolls because they made extra that morning. After dinner, we headed back to the hotel and
watched their crummy, broken up cable for the rest of the night.
Unfortunately, to top everything else, we both woke up
feeling sore and stiff. The bed was the
most uncomfortable thing and felt like it had just undone everything the
massage did. We ate our rolls in bed and
then got ready for the day and headed home.
At one point, D even turned to me and said, we can do this again, but I
don’t want to spend the night.
Our little getaway wasn’t the most relaxing thing and both
of us got a little frustrated (at the hotel, not each other). I don’t really foresee us going back there
anytime soon, but we still had a good time which is the whole point of these
dates.
Now, I better get to booking our March date!
