Summer Bucket List Recap

0

I'm not going to lie, this project was a little redundant to my 52 List.  But, I felt I needed to do a summer list because I have for the last few years.  I'm a little sad that I didn't do every thing on this list.  I made it simple...only up to 14 things - one for each week that is 'summer'.  And yet I didn't complete it.  Oh well.  10 out of 14 isn't too terrible.  There is always next year!

1.  #100happydays Vol 3 |7.6.16
02.  Chase Bubbles | I never got around to buying a bubble machine for my dogs.  And Abby broke her's last year.  I really wanted to see if my dogs would be interested in it.  Guess I'll have to find out next year.
03.  Dog Park | With Moe tearing his ACL, I didn't want to risk taking him to the dog park and playing too hard.  So we skipped it this year.
04.  Go to the Missouri State Fair | August was SO busy for us.  We needed a 'down' weekend and it happened to be during the fair.  (We were out of town the first weekend of the fair.)  Next year for sure!
05.  Golf Trip | 8.14.16
06.  Healing Trip | 7.14.16
07.  Hike a Trail | 6.3.16
08.  Make Ice Cream every Weekend in Summer | 9.4.16
09.  Marti Family Trip | 8.7.16
10.  Plant Flowers | 6.8.16
11.  Play in the Puppy Pool | 6.12.16
12.  Stargazing Date | Hoping to do this during our one year anniversary trip.
13.  Watch a Sunrise and Sunset in the Same Day | 8.4.16

14.  Watch Fireworks | 7.4.16

52 List : Twenty Six Completed: Make Ice Cream

Oh man, this was probably one of my favorite things to do this summer.  Make ice cream every weekend as much as possible.  I knew life would be busy, but I wanted to make sure I really utilized my ice cream maker this summer.

My biggest regret about this is that I never made homemade ice cream for dad.  The ice cream maker came from my parents as a bridal shower gift and I was too stubborn to get it out before we were married and I didn't want to make it during the cold months.  It had to be during the summer and dad didn't make it that long.  (Note to self - when you want to do something-do it.  Don't create stupid time frames.)

I don't have photos of each kind I made, but this is what we tired this summer:
Vanilla - nothing can top a good homemade vanilla ice cream
Triple chocolate - we aren't big fans of chunks of chocolate in our ice cream.  it was a little too rich
Cookies and Cream - this one actually almost topped the vanilla.  and I don't usually like cookies and cream.
Salted Caramel - good, but D and mom liked it more than I did.  I'm like my dad.  I prefer plain, unless it's the green kind.
Mint Chocolate Chip - so good!!!  I didn't find a recipe that looked good so I improvised.  I took the cookies and cream recipe,  used mint oreos instead of regular, added mint extract and green food coloring.  Yum!
Butter pecan - The recipe didn't come from Kitchen-Aid and so it was gritty and not as good, in my opinion.  I'd rather buy it than make it.

52 List : Twenty Three : Golf Trip

I managed to not get any photos during this trip, but one.  To be honest, the trip did not go smoothly.  I guess we will try again next year...maybe....and maybe with only a few of the couples....

Summer Bucket List : Watch a Sunrise and Sunset in the same day

During our family trip to Branson, we rented a boat for 2 days (because we didn't catch any fish the first day).  D, his parents, and I got up bright and early to go fishing.  The lake was so foggy in the morning.  It was breath taking.

Since they didn't catch anything during the day, D and his dad went back out in the late evening.  I rode along and documented the journey.  This was probably my favorite time out on the boat.  The sun was shining just right.  It was quiet and peaceful.

52 List : Healing Trip

At the end of 2015 I had planned a trip to Yellowstone with my parents and D.  The main thing I wanted to do was to take dad fly fishing.  His favorite movie is A River Runs Through It.  We used to watch it at least once a day right after he was diagnosed.  It's something he has always wanted to do.  D had never been to Yellowstone and we had just been in 2014 and it was magical.

I had to fly fishing trip booked, down payment and all.  The hotels were booked too.  It was one of those trips that I could picture, just like it had happened.  I was so excited for this trip.  Especially to make a video of it.  (To remember dad in motion.)

And then he passed away.

Let me tell you, there is nothing quite worse than cancelling a trip for a person you love most because they are no longer here.  Sure, we still could have gone, but it would have been too painful.  We talk about going, but it probably won't be until after we have kids now.

Since we had been looking forward to a trip in July and Yellowstone was definitely out, we decided to go to the beach.  We have a family friend who owns a house right on the Gulf Shores in Alabama.  She has always offered for us to go so we finally took her up on her offer.

Instead of heading to the mountains as a family of 4, we went to the beach as a family of 3.

^^ These people.  They are my world.

^^ He used to joke that I can't tan.  But that's mainly because I don't go outside often and we didn't a pool to go to prior to this year.  Look who tans in just minutes...ha!

^^ We were originally going to go on a hot air balloon ride, but it got cancelled because of a storm that came in earlier in the day.  So D and I decided to go parasailing.  I can't believe I did this.  Over water.  With sharks in it.

A little video of our trip.  Enjoy!

52 List : Seventeen : #100happydays vol 3

Day 01 | I hear ya, but…Tuesdays are sometimes worse than Mondays.
Day 02 | So thankful for him, his support, and his comfort.  He gets me through the tough nights and doesn't ask questions because he already knows.
Day 03 | I don't know how I lived without these 2 in my life.
Day 04 | Date night with him to see Cirque de Soleil’s Avatar.
Day 05 | Spontaneous shopping day with her is the best!
Day 06 | When a new recipe goes right.
Day 07 | Enjoying the spring weather (and chewing on mom’s fingers).
Day 08 | Working out with these 2 was quite interesting.
Day 09 | When you get the sweetest text message from your flower girl.
Day 10 | Watching your hubby and nephew play hide and seek.
Day 11 | Hello weekend!  We are so ready for you.
Day 12 | At the Royals Game
Day 13 | Lazy, yet productive day.  Sleeping in after 10, D did yard work, made progress on last year’s book, awesome dinner, and a movie.
Day 14 | Today was a perfectly fine day.  And yet, as the sun began to set, a new wave of sadness rushed over me and I cried on my way home.  My days these last few weeks have not been very happy, but I’m looking for the good.  Today that was in the form of an empty car.
Day 15 | Visiting daddy.  The best and worst part of my day all rolled into one.  I got to see him, spend some time with him, and I got to hear that today wasn’t a good day for him.  He didn’t sleep well last night and the mucus in his throat from the mouth sores is preventing him from swallowing his pills.  He has finally lost all his hair, except for his eyebrows, and he hasn’t had solid food in 9 days.  And then I cried all the way home.
Day 16 | Seeing how a little walk and fresh air does today.
Day 17 | Today was good!  Dad’s white cells doubled (0.1 to 0.2), had a good busy day at work, volunteered for junior league, took the pups for a walk (with minimal pulling), and got our new countertops in the kitchen.  But seriously.  Dad’s body is proving, once again, that it’s not ready to give up.  I had lost faith and couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.  And today, there it was.
Day 18 | New countertops.  Working on a new faucet.  Hardworking hubby.
Day 19 | Attempted our first 5K.  Thankfully the half way point was by our house.  Too much excitement before the race – meeting new people and dogs.  These 2 are pooped.  They are ready for a big ol’ nap.
Day 20 | Broken heart.
Day 21 | He was there at my first breath, I was there at his last.
Day 22 | I held it together for most of the day.  We planned his funeral.  Now beginning to go through photos for his video I’ll make.
Day 23 | Happy birthday to the most amazing woman I have ever known.  I am so proud of the strength you have shown over these last few days.  You are the person who can read my like nobody else can.  Who guided me through very trial and triumph I have faced.  You are the only other person who can feel how deeply this pain feels.  You are my rock.  I love you so much mommy.  I’m so thankful God gave me you.
Day 24 | All 3 fur babies can tell something is up.  Thankful that they don’t want to leave my side and are always there to give hugs.

Day 25 | These two…The love they have shown this past week has been amazing.  So thankful they still put a smile on my face.

Day 26 | This man… I love him.
Day 27 | The love that was shown at the visitations was incredible.  Thank you.
Day 28 | I am in complete awe of how many people came to honor my dad today as we celebrated his life.  Thank you to everyone who offered words of comfort, provided us with meals, and those who held me together this past week.  I will forever be grateful for you.
Day 29 | This little nugget won't stop licking me.  At least he can still put a smile on my face.
Day 30 | She knows her momma’s heart hurts.
Day 31 | I spent most of the evening with her.  We met with a  friend and she recalled a conversation she had with my dad at her super bowl party earlier this year.  She asked how he was doing and he told her his body hurt.  But it was ok because he got to do the one thing he wanted to do.  When that conversation happened, the last big thing that happened in our lives was my wedding.  We all knew he meant walking me down the aisle.  I truly believe that God kept him here for that moment.  And I believe that dad’s body fought like hell to be here for that day.  I’m so so thankful.
Day 32 | Nothing a margarita can’t fix.
Day 33 | Photographed my 3rd birth this morning.
Day 34 | My smooshy face.
Day 35 | When I come home and am greeted with this face!
Day 36 | Date to see The 1975 in concert!
Day 37 | The good morning stretch.
Day 38 | When friends still show up to support us.
Day 39 | Hello perfect Friday.
Day 40 | When we re-did our porch a year ago, I never thought it would be my healing place.
Day 41 | This woman…she is incredible.  Happy Mother’s Day.  I love you with all my heart.
Day 42 | These three.  So happy to have my family happy and healthy again.
Day 43 | Quick stop to give her her Mother’s Day gift.  And she loved it.  This next journey is not going to be easy, but we are going to make it worthwhile.
Day 44 | His and Hers.
Day 45 | Sometimes accident photos become my favorite.
Day 46 | Trying out watermelon.  In our house, 3 of 4 approve, Rory not included.
Day 47 | Mother/Daughter date with this girls are my favorite.
Day 48 | I love being married to him.
Day 49 | Finishing touches of paint in the kitchen.
Day 50 | Helping the community at work.

Day 51 | Hi daddy....
Day 521 | These pups.
Day 53 | Waiting.
Day 54 | Did some shoe damage today.
Day 55 | Sundays are becoming my favorite day.  Love having a great dinner with my family,
Day 56 | Enjoying the wind in her hair.
Day 57 | My little patient is home and doing alright.  He had a complete tear in his ACL and we did surgery early enough that there are no signs of arthritis.
Day 58 | Hello Rory.
Day 59 | I wuv you.
Day 60 | When you're recovering from ACL surgery and mom just gave you some pain meds.
Day 61 | His new favorite place.
Day 62 | When mom makes homemade ice cream for the first time everybody gets a lick.
Day 63 | I'll help you make the bed!
Day 64 | More kitchen details.
Day 65 | Moe got his stitches out today.  The vet was surprised to see he was putting weight on his leg just a week after surgery.  He told me that most dogs won't put weight on it for 2 weeks.  He was really surprised when I told him Moe was walking on it periodically the day after surgery.  So thankful he is healing and having a speedy recovery.  Hopefully in 2 weeks we can start slow small walks around the neighborhood.
Day 66 | Reunited and it feels so good.
Day 67 | "Difficult roads often lead to beautiful places."
Day 68 | I could get used to this.
Day 69 | "That's when I realized what a true friend was.  Someone who would always love you-the imperfect you, the confused you, the wrong you-because that's what people are supposed to do."
Day 70 | Watching the sunrise and grateful for the previous days.
Day 71 | Making the back yard beautiful.
Day 72 | When you're having a horrible day and you walk outside to see this happen.  I love her!
