43|52 : 52 List : Thirty Two : 12 Dates : October : Chief's Game

Week Forty Three
October 23, 2016

I went kind of big for October and we saw the Chief's live!  I bought some pretty amazing tickets.  It was a fun experience, but I think we are more of watch football from home kind of people.  We don't yell much and there were lots of very drunk people.

So thankful to spend days like this with him!

52 List : Twenty Nine : 12 Dates : September : Brad Williams Show

For our September date we saw comedian Brad Williams.  We watched his show on tv and loved it.  When I saw he was coming to our town, I knew I had to book it.

I actually ended up seeing this show twice in one weekend.  I originally booked the Friday night showing (that was the date D picked) and then a few months later we found out he had to travel for work that week and would be back really late Friday night.  So I booked another set of tickets for Sunday evening.  Mom ended up going with me to the Friday night showing.  She was so happy because she was jealous when I told her this was one of our dates.  It was a win/win all around!

52 List : Twenty Six Completed: Make Ice Cream

Oh man, this was probably one of my favorite things to do this summer.  Make ice cream every weekend as much as possible.  I knew life would be busy, but I wanted to make sure I really utilized my ice cream maker this summer.

My biggest regret about this is that I never made homemade ice cream for dad.  The ice cream maker came from my parents as a bridal shower gift and I was too stubborn to get it out before we were married and I didn't want to make it during the cold months.  It had to be during the summer and dad didn't make it that long.  (Note to self - when you want to do something-do it.  Don't create stupid time frames.)

I don't have photos of each kind I made, but this is what we tired this summer:
Vanilla - nothing can top a good homemade vanilla ice cream
Triple chocolate - we aren't big fans of chunks of chocolate in our ice cream.  it was a little too rich
Cookies and Cream - this one actually almost topped the vanilla.  and I don't usually like cookies and cream.
Salted Caramel - good, but D and mom liked it more than I did.  I'm like my dad.  I prefer plain, unless it's the green kind.
Mint Chocolate Chip - so good!!!  I didn't find a recipe that looked good so I improvised.  I took the cookies and cream recipe,  used mint oreos instead of regular, added mint extract and green food coloring.  Yum!
Butter pecan - The recipe didn't come from Kitchen-Aid and so it was gritty and not as good, in my opinion.  I'd rather buy it than make it.

52 List : Twenty Five : 12 Dates: August : Top Gun Drive In Movie

Our town just started to offer a free drive in movie once a month.  They show old movies, nothing that has come out in the last decade.  When I saw they were going to show D’s favorite movie, I knew we had to go.

^^Such a strange looking photo.  Guess my iPhone at night through our car window wasn't the best idea...

We spent all morning at our company picnic at the zoo so by the time out date came around, we were pretty exhausted.  Thankfully this date didn’t require too much of us.  It was hot and sticky and the movie started a lot later than I thought it would.  But we talked and had some really good laughs.  (D’s face while I tried to get a photo of the 2 of us….he was making a goofy face and then I caught him mid blink.  HILARIOUS!!!)

52 List : Twenty Three : Golf Trip

I managed to not get any photos during this trip, but one.  To be honest, the trip did not go smoothly.  I guess we will try again next year...maybe....and maybe with only a few of the couples....

52 List : Twenty One : Week in the Life 2016

I love this series of project.  I printed with blurb... I have every year except the year Ali put out her own kit.

In 2016, each page looked like this.  The photo with the day, date, time, and description.  That tree is no longer in our yard anymore.  We had to cut it down.  Life moves so fast sometimes.

52 List : Healing Trip

At the end of 2015 I had planned a trip to Yellowstone with my parents and D.  The main thing I wanted to do was to take dad fly fishing.  His favorite movie is A River Runs Through It.  We used to watch it at least once a day right after he was diagnosed.  It's something he has always wanted to do.  D had never been to Yellowstone and we had just been in 2014 and it was magical.

I had to fly fishing trip booked, down payment and all.  The hotels were booked too.  It was one of those trips that I could picture, just like it had happened.  I was so excited for this trip.  Especially to make a video of it.  (To remember dad in motion.)

And then he passed away.

Let me tell you, there is nothing quite worse than cancelling a trip for a person you love most because they are no longer here.  Sure, we still could have gone, but it would have been too painful.  We talk about going, but it probably won't be until after we have kids now.

Since we had been looking forward to a trip in July and Yellowstone was definitely out, we decided to go to the beach.  We have a family friend who owns a house right on the Gulf Shores in Alabama.  She has always offered for us to go so we finally took her up on her offer.

Instead of heading to the mountains as a family of 4, we went to the beach as a family of 3.

^^ These people.  They are my world.

^^ He used to joke that I can't tan.  But that's mainly because I don't go outside often and we didn't a pool to go to prior to this year.  Look who tans in just minutes...ha!

^^ We were originally going to go on a hot air balloon ride, but it got cancelled because of a storm that came in earlier in the day.  So D and I decided to go parasailing.  I can't believe I did this.  Over water.  With sharks in it.

A little video of our trip.  Enjoy!
