Oh December Daily, you are my new favorite holiday tradition. (I can call it that now because this is my second year making a December album.) This tradition seems to make me so much more excited about Christmas than in years past when I didn’t document my holidays. I’m not sure why, but it seems to instill the magic of the season. Again, I bought the Studio Calico kit and I am planning on using only that kit for the embellishments and paper. I want to make sure that I utilize it to its capacity. I did, however, buy Ali Edwards’ 4x6 journal cards. I used these in 2012 and loved how they housed my stories.
COVER | I had to laugh because I had already planned out my book cover before watching Ali Edward’s video. I painted the front and back (and insides too) white and then used the gold glitter tape where the paint and the red fabric meet. I love its simplicity.
TITLE PAGE | I kind of made 2 title pages this year. I so loved what Ali did for her title page and I mimicked it. I noticed through social media, that a lot of other people did this too. Just proof that her ideas are brilliant! I didn’t like the idea of seeing so much of day 1 through the transparency and I wanted something that shared the year and our name, so I added another title page. I used the same technique that Ali did on the calendar card. The other 3x4 slot I used her quote she posted on her blog. I just saved the image and then colored in the words until there was no more black showing through. I printed it on some vellum I had on hand. This was the first time printing on vellum and I really like the outcome. I will probably be doing this again later on in my book.
DAY ONE | I so love how day 1 turned out. On the left side I used paper and the JOY badge on the back of the calendar card. I used the 4x6 journal card to tell what I did for the day. It was a very typical day, full of puppy cuddles, errands and football with friends. The right side is a photo of me and Abby in front of the Christmas tree. Mom was cleaning the kitchen floor so I was entertaining Abby. (She responded with kisses.) I added ribbon where the picture and paper meet and then I added the MERRY MERRY MERRY chipboard sticker above the photo. Very simple.
DAY TWO | Day 2 was warm so we decided it was the perfect day to put up the lights on the outside of our house. Unfortunately it took almost the entire night and included a trip to Wal-Mart to get replacement lights. But we got it done and the house looks very festive!
DAY THREE | Day 3 I talked about putting up the Christmas tree and the twinkle lights. I love twinkle lights. We actually put up the tree before Thanksgiving, but I wanted a picture of the tree like this in my book again this year. Since the tree was already up, I had more time to play with this spread. I printed an enlarged photo of the tree at Wal-Mart (I don’t have a large size printer). I heat embossed red glitter onto the wood veneer letters. They didn’t come off real sparkly (I would have liked a little more). I don’t know if I didn’t get enough versamark on the letters or if it was the brand of powder I used. (I used Michaels’ brand, recollections.) The minute I picked up the letters and started the heat gun, red glitter flew everywhere. But overall it got the same affect. I also added some gold letters too to repeat the same saying. For the left side, I included a photo of putting the tree together and used the red pompom ribbon. I was hesitant about his particular ribbon, but I love how Ali displayed it. I plan on doing this again later in my book
DAY FOUR | Day 4 was a rough one at work. Actually this entire week has been and I don’t think it is going to let up any time soon. So today I played. And it made everything a little bit better. I have been a huge fan of Ali’s page from 2011 and even made one of these collages for my OLW earlier this year. It was fun to get the stamp out again and see what I could come up with. The majority of the items I used were from the Studio Calico kit, with the exception of squares 4 (present sticker from Michaels), 6 (button from DD 2012), and 8 (snowflake wood veneer from DD 2012 with ink and white embossing powder stamped over it). Again, I used Ali’s journal card to tell about my day. Below my story is a see thru I created and glued onto a transparency so it fits into the pocket.
DAY FIVE | Today I documented the little things of the day. We woke up to a dusting of snow on the ground. I enjoyed a yoga class. And the best part, laughter with dad.
DAY SIX | Today turned out great! The big news….I got a promotion at work! So awesome! I also told a pretty funny story about Abby drinking milk out of my glass I left on the coffee table unattended. Oops!
Again, I'm so loving this project! I can't wait to see how the rest of the month spans out!
