To Do | 2012 | March Update

1.  Take a family photo each month.

2.  Do a 52 week portrait project. (Weeks 10-13)

3.  Get a 'big girl' job.

4.  Make a dinner for a family who is going through a tough time. | We made 2.
-One for an elderly couple who go to our church.  They have been incredibly kind to us with all of our heartaches and we wanted to thank them.  The husband also has Alzheimer's and we know what it is like to care for someone suffering from that disease.
-The other dinner was for my grandparent's neighbor.  They have also been incredibly kind to us over the last few months, especially when my grandfather passed away.  The wife lost her father a week ago so we wanted to help provide them with a warm meal.

5.  Plan a family trip.

6.  De-clutter my bedroom. | (Under the bed)
-I cleaned off the top of my desk.  It had piles and piles of stuff.  Next up is the desk drawers (2).  Those haven't been clean in years.... (February)

7.  Clean/de-clutter my closet.

8.  Read a least 1 book a month. | I read 5 this month.  The first 2 were slightly similar as in there was a relationship between a granddaughter and her grandmother and there are a lot of secrets.  And then the other 3 were The Hunger Game Trilogy. I can't believe I read the entire thing in 5 days.  That is a record for me.  Wow!
-The You I Never Knew by Susan Wiggs (January)
-The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks (January)
-The Help by Kathryn Stockett (February)
-Summer House by Nancy Thayer | It took me a while to get into this book, but once I got to the last third I couldn't put it down.  And now that it is over, I miss the characters.  And you know when it is a good book when you miss the people in the story.
-More Than Words Can Say by Robert Barclay | Oh me goodness I could not put this book down.  I read it in 3 days, well kind of 2 since I started it late one night, and finished it 2 days later in the morning.  This one is definitely going in my favorite books collection.  I highly suggest you go read it!
-The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins | To be honest I really had no desire to read this series.  My friends keep talking about how good it was, but I didn't listen.  Then one day I saw a movie trailer that caught my attention.  I thought it looked like such a good movie and wanted to make sure I caught the title.  The Hunger Games.  Oh, great.  Looks like I'll be reading that in the near future.... During a trip to Wal-Mart I picked it up.  The book was done 2 1/2 days later.
-Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins | I started this book later in the day after I finished the first one.  I pretty much finished it in one sitting.  (2 to be exact b/c I started it at night and only got through 1/2 of the first section.  Then read the other 2 1/2 sections the next day.)  It took a little while to get into, but it definitely ended with a bang.
-Mocking Jay by Suzanne Collins | Once again, another good book.  It became a little too si-fi for me.  I'm a visual person and I got lost trying to imagine what what going on.

9.  Try 3 new recipes each month.
-January (2)
-February (2)
-Chicken Rice Casserole | This isn't a new recipe to my family, but it was the first time I've ever made it.
-Tortellini with Peas and Ham | One of my new favorites!  A church member brought us this a while ago and I loved it!  Had to get the recipe.  We've had it many times since, but this was the first time I've made it.  So stinkin easy!
-Fried Chicken with Fat Gravy | I've made this before, but it has been a while. I had a refresher course :)

10.  Do 3 projects in my craft list. (It is February and I've already completed this, so I'm going to add 3 more to my list, making it 6.)
  • Paper Hearts (January)
  • Decorative binder clips (February)
  • Card book (February)
  • Reusable calendar | I made a calendar template on my computer and printed it off on decorative paper and put it in a frame.  All ready to write on with a dry erase marker.  So simple.

11.  Finish watching 'Best Picture' oscar movies.  (I actually didn't start my 2011 list until March so I am still catching up on the 'Best Picture' oscar movie list.)
To stay on track I have to watch 5 movies a month.  February I watched a lot of movies so I only had to watch 3 this month....And I only watched 2.  Guess I have to add an extra one next month.

To Do | 2012 | February Update

Well, another month has come and gone.  February is the shortest month, yet I kept thinking it was March in the last week of February.  Anyways, the update:

1.  Take a family photo | Taken at my birthday dinner celebration.

2.  Do a 52 week portrait project

3.  Get a 'big girl' job.
4.  Make a dinner for a family who is going through a tough time.
5.  Plan a family trip.
6.  De-clutter my bedroom. | (Under the bed)

  • I cleaned off the top of my desk.  It had piles and piles of stuff.  Next up is the desk drawers (2).  Those haven't been clean in years....
7.  Clean/de-clutter my closet.
8.  Read a least 1 book a month.

  • The You I Never Knew by Susan Wiggs (January)
  • The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks (January)
  • The Help by Kathryn Stockett | To be honest I only kind of wanted to see the movie, but had no desire to read the book.  But my friend said the movie was good, but I had to read the book first.  I'm glad she forced me out of her house with her copy of the book because oh my, it is a good one.  I know they always say that the movie does not do the book justice, but it sure is true about this one.  The movie just skimmed the book.  It is the depth and detail in the book that makes it good.  You can't really do without it and that is what they did in the movie.
9.  Try 3 new recipes each month. (Apparently 3 recipes is too many in a month.  I seem to only do 2.)
  • Panera's Macaroni and Cheese | Not sure about this one yet...
  • Pizza Cups | Not too bad, but the recipe needs a little revision.
10.  Do 3 projects in my craft list. (It is February and I've already completed this, so I'm going to add 3 more to my list, making it 6.)

  • Paper Hearts
  • Decorative binder clips
  • Card book | I wanted to save all the graduation cards I received, but didn't want to throw them in a box along with all the other cards I've received in the past.  So I punched holes in them and bound them rings.  Now they are all together in a nice, neat, organized fashion.  Maybe I'll do this with previous cards....
11.  Finish watching 'Best Picture' oscar movies.  (I actually didn't start my 2011 list until March so I am still catching up on the 'Best Picture' oscar movie list.)
This month we had another year of the Oscars.  Got to add 1 more movie to the list!

To Do | 2012 | January Update

I want to make this post a little more entertaining so I'm going to add more photos in with my accomplishments.  Some may get their own post, but that's ok.  So this is my January...

1.  Take a monthly family photo.

2.  Do a 52 week portrait photo project.

3.  Get a 'big girl' job.
4.  Make a dinner for a family who is going through a tough time.
5.  Plan a family trip.
6.  De-clutter my bedroom.
  • Working on it.  Cleaned out my dresser and getting rid of clothes I don't want anymore.  (Didn't think that needed a photo :) )

7.  Clean/de-clutter my closet.
8.  Read a least 1 book a month.
  • The You I Never Knew by Susan Wiggs.
  • The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks.  Amazing book.  Read it in 3 days.  Definitely recommend.
9.  Try 3 new recipes each month. (I'm editing this (already).  In attempts to learn how to cook better, cook 3 meals a month.  Some recipes may by new some may be old.  But at least I'm cooking.)
  • Cinnamon Rolls from scratch.  So yummy! This recipe was new.

  • Hamlet
  • All the King's Men | Didn't keep my attention...

  • Lawrence of Arabia | It was ok.  A little strange and hard to follow...
  • Oliver
  • Midnight Cowboy
  • Patton | Pretty good movie.  (I think I like the war movies.  haha!) It was slightly on the long side, but then again anything going over 2 hours seems to be getting that comment...Oops!
  • The Godfather Part II
  • One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
  • Rocky | I thought this would be a horrible movie, but there were some really funny parts.  Turns out it wasn't too bad after all.
  • Gandhi
  • Out of Africa | Good.  Long.  Sad.
  • The Last Emperor | Super long.  And some parts were quite disgusting.
  • A Beautiful Mind | Mom said it was long and boring, but I didn't think it was too bad.  I actually liked it.

12.  Watch 'Best Actor' oscar movies.
  • Emil Jannings-Last Command

  • Denzel Washington-Training Day
  • Adrien Brody-The Pianist
  • Sean Penn-Mystic River
  • Jamie Foxx-Ray | Really good movie.  I think Jamie Foxx definitely deserved this win.  I read that he really did play the piano in the movie and he wore fake eyelids which made him blind.  His acting was extremely authentic and it shows.
  • Philip Seymour Hoffman-Capote
  • Forest Whitaker-The Last King of Scotland
  • Daniel Day Lewis-There Will Be Blood
  • Sean Penn-Milk
  • Jeff Bridges-Crazy Heart
  • Colin Firth-The King's Speech

*Note: The oscar nominations have been put out this month.  To be honest, I'm very surprised by a few of them.  There are some people who have been nominated that I don't think their work is oscar worthy.  But I'm looking more at the movie history, not just for this one particular role.  So I guess I shouldn't pass judgement.
