We went to go see dad and to put a wreath down on his grave.  And then we saw that his headstone had been placed.  So bittersweet.

He felt like playing a game tonight - specifically Clue.  We don't own it, but my mom did.  So we went over to her house and ended up playing 4 rounds of the game.  Best, most spontaneous night I've had in a long time.

Monday

Today was a tough one. It was one of those days that just keeps kicking you down when you're already down.  

01. Me too buddy. This morning was slow to start and no one wanted to get out of bed.
02. Hoping a shower helps get the day started.
03. Breakfast together this morning.

05. Received this nice little gift.
06. Mom got locked out of her house (garage door spring broke). I was late getting to her house to help. When I got there I couldn't fix it like I though I could. Thankfully we knew where the garage door guy lived and drove to his house (he's a neighbor) and asked if he could help. He was so kind and saved the night.
07. Arrived late to my league meeting. Ended up picking up dinner for D.
08. Half of my welcome home committee. [I was certain he tore his ACL again. He was really limping (more than normal after he plays rough.) Thankfully that wasn't the case...we went to the vet the following day.]
09. 'Take a picture.'
10. She always knows when I need extra love and tonight...oh, I needed it.
11. My favorite part of December. Twinkle twinkle.
12. Oh bed, I've never been so hapy to see you.

I went kind of big for October and we saw the Chief's live!  I bought some pretty amazing tickets.  It was a fun experience, but I think we are more of watch football from home kind of people.  We don't yell much and there were lots of very drunk people.  

So thankful to spend days like this with him!

The Power of a Photo

It was October 2013, the day before his 60^th birthday.  He was getting ready to leave for Mayo Clinic in Minnesota to talk about options.  I think there was some kind of movement going on in his cancer.  The place I worked at at the time gave me an hour lunch break and I used to come home and have lunch with my dad every day.  He waited to have lunch with me before making the trek north, all by himself. 

I had snuck a homemade birthday card in his car where he usually would keep his phone and wallet.  I knew he would find it eventually. 

I made sure I had my phone on silent camera mode, he probably won’t like that I was taking a photo.  I gave him a hug as I was taking a hundred photos, hoping one would look alright.  Then we got in our cars and drove our separate ways.  It took me 15 minutes to get to work and I bawled the entire way. 

I remember this one, tiny, insignificant moment so clearly. 

What I would do to go back there for a moment.

Just for one little hug.

Week Forty Two

Spending our one year anniversary exploring Canyonlands and Arches National Parks.  

52 List : Twenty Nine : 12 Dates : September : Brad Williams Show

For our September date we saw comedian Brad Williams.  We watched his show on tv and loved it.  When I saw he was coming to our town, I knew I had to book it.  

I actually ended up seeing this show twice in one weekend.  I originally booked the Friday night showing (that was the date D picked) and then a few months later we found out he had to travel for work that week and would be back really late Friday night.  So I booked another set of tickets for Sunday evening.  Mom ended up going with me to the Friday night showing.  She was so happy because she was jealous when I told her this was one of our dates.  It was a win/win all around!
